mullet like me RSS

In 1959 journalist John Howard Griffin darkened his skin for an undercover experiment with racial tensions that would later be published as 'Black Like Me.' Now, fifty years later, a man with markedly less courage takes on a mission with markedly lower stakes. -------- contact: mulletlikeme@gmail.com twitter: @mulletlikeme

i need a new car…

i drive a toyota yaris hatchback. it’s a great little car. killer mileage. fits a drum kit. relatively fun to drive. etc. i’ve recommended the yaris to friends and would buy one again in a heartbeat. there’s just one problem…

it totally betrays my experiment.

i’m not saying a mulleted-american can’t drive a yaris… rather, i’m starting to realize that he simply wouldn’t.

last night I went to a bonfire with some relatives. my uncle, an expert on shitty cars, asked me what i was driving to fit with my mullet.

“just my yaris…” i responded, already sensing what he was getting at.

“well that’s not gonna work! you need a trans am… or a camaro.”

he was right. i need a camaro.

“you can get some nice camaros for like two grand. trust me.”

while his figures might be accurate — and certainly a deal, if so — i’m not sure i have an extra 2k lying around to contribute to the authenticity of this experiment.

but wait… what if I take donations?

who among us hasn’t always wanted to help a man with a mullet buy a camaro?

i could partner with a charity and donate the car after i’m done with it.

hmmm…

not ready to add a paypal button to the site just yet. but my wheels (located just under the racing stripes) are certainly turning…
